Volunteer
- Attend a Boston ICO New Volunteer Meeting
- Complete a Volunteer Agreement , Code of Ethics and Volunteer Application (we will run a background check at no cost to you)
- Commit to and participate in on-trail and/or off-trail activities
Certified Leader
- Fulfill the following requirements:

3. Current First Aid | Now | Must be current |
4. Complete ICO OLT 101 | Now | Renew every four years |
5. Demonstrate skills appropriate to type of trip | Now | |
6. Assist on at least one ICO Outing | Now | |
7. Provisionally lead an Outing with positive feedback from Mentor Leader | Now | Redo after having not led in the last four years |
8. Receive chair approval | Now | |
9. Complete an ICO Volunteer Application | Now | Once |
10. Pass the criminal background check and a DMV check if driver | Now | Renew every four years |
11. Read and sign the ICO Code of Ethics | Now | Once |
12. Read and sign the Sierra Club Outings Volunteer Agreement | Now | Once |
13. Complete the Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention Training | Now | Annually |
14. Complete any additional ICO Group requirements | Now | Per local guidelines |
Agency Liaison
- Act as contact person between ICO and participating agencies
- Negotiate participation agreements with agencies
- Assist ICO officers in matching leaders to agencies
- Provide training coordinator with agency feedback on leaders
- Coordinate ongoing agency recruitment efforts; report at monthly meetings
- Consolidate and confirm the proposed outing dates from each agency team, as applicable
