May 1, 2011 - Trip to Drumlin Farm
We had a great trip last Sunday to Drumlin Farm with the kids from Zumix and East Boston Neighborhood Health Center. There were 21 kids in total and 9 volunteers. We had set up a structured farmyard program to educate the kids on how a farm works and where food comes from. The teachers for the program were terrific and had the kids feed the chickens and cows, milk the cow, make butter and gave them a general overview of the farm and how it works! We saw a very large sow with 4 baby piglets, which was a highlight for some of the kids, baby goats, sheep, and much more!
After the farmyard program we enjoyed a picnic lunch and then hiked up to the top of Drumlin Hill where we could see views of Mt. Monadnock. At this point we broke off into smaller groups and some stayed on the hill and played group tag, lounged in the field and enjoyed the views. The other group went back to enjoy more time with the animals on the farm.

The whole day was terrific! We had beautiful weather and the kids enjoyed the trip immensely. Thanks to all of our volunteers for helping out that day! We could not have done it without you all! I hope to see you all on another trip this summer!
