July 14, 2014 - Zumix to Babson Boulders in Gloucester
On July 14th, the Boston ICO took the Zumix kids to Gloucester. The trip to Gloucester started in East Boston. Our plan was to first go hiking at the Dogtown's Babson Boulders and then go swimming at Stage Fort Park. It was a beautiful sunny morning and the bus left East Boston filled with volunteers, participants from Zumix and Let's Get Movin', and all the snacks, lunch and water.
After a quick rest stop and a 45 minute drive, we arrived at the parking lot in Gloucester where we met up with the rest of the volunteers and walked to the beginning of the Babson Boulder trail to have opening circle. From there, everyone split into teams of five to have a scavenger hunt! We searched for boulders carved with positive inscriptions in the 1930's by stonemasons. The hunt led us down Dogtown road where the busdriver picked us up to have lunch and go swimming at Stage Fort Park. After eating, we swam and changed clothes to go back to Boston.
Aside from a few bugbites and scratches, we all made it back in one piece. It was a great trip and the kids really enjoyed finding the boulders and the swimming in the ocean!!
Thanks to volunteers Ray, Maya and Ben for all their help with this trip!
