Pat's Peak Skiing, New Hampshire
Seaport Academy February 25, 2019
Trip Leaders: Mathew Apeseche (ICO Leader), Meredith Carleson
Monday morning Seaport students gathered on a rainy day to go to Pat's Peak. After some deliberation about whether to continue with the trip the students decided that even if it was raining that they really wanted to try their hand at snowboarding still.
On the ride up it poured, and trip leaders tried their best to set expectations about what it was going to be like to ski and snowboard in the rain. However, as soon as we pulled into the Pat's Peak parking lot the rain stopped!
We got the students geared up, and three kids went off with a Pat's Peak instructor for an hour lesson. After the lesson we hung out on the bunny hill to nail down some basic skills. Our veteran snowboard student was extremely patient and helped the other three students with their turns and stopping.
After another hour or two on the bunny hill all the kids wanted to try going up the lift. It took us over an hour to get to the bottom (most of which was hiking up one section of the hill to go off a small jump). With wet clothes and sore bodies the students returned to lodge. Everyone had great things to say about the experience, and they all hope to come back next year.
